father's day

Texas Hill Country

June 15 is my birthday and, this year, June 17 was Father's Day.  Every year from the time I can remember, I've celebrated near some sort of water. i.e. pool, lake, river, etc... This year I landed on the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa. Phew! That's a mouthful of a name...I'll call it JWMSAHCRS from here on out.

JWMSAHCRS is the perfect get away for a Texan with a kid, or kids, who wants something fun and easy.  In typical resort style, there are 6 restaurants, a Starbucks, bars in each eatery, a PGA certified golf course set on the bluffs of the most beautiful and typical TX scenery and a top-notch spa.  But that wasn't why we were here.  We were here for the water party!

Named the River Bluff Experience, the pool area was perfect.  There are several pools and slides as well as a lazy river and a children's area.  We hung out mostly in the back children's pool because of the sandy beach and shallow water.  I was recommended to rent a cabana, however, it was almost more expensive than the entire weekend get away! We had no problem finding chairs under an umbrella!

All of the food we ate was delicious! The breakfast buffet, THAT IS INCLUDED, was fantastic.

Our trip was very short and we immediately wished we'd planned a longer stay.  Big regrets include: I didn't get to enjoy the spa, the steakhouse or see the  120 foot long HD TV in the sports bar.

Things we loved the most: the mixed drinks, the pools and the big grassy area that tons (and I mean tons) of kids just run and play!

In the evening, they have several events to enjoy.  We saw a magician, a zoo keeper with animals to show, and musicians.  They also play movies outside and we got to enjoy s'mores cooked up on the hill.

Already planning my next birthday weekend at JWMSAHCRS and this time I'm booking more days and inviting more kids!
