Colorado. Mountains and fresh air. Exactly what we needed in our first real getaway without Scout.

We decided to go in August because its one of the worst times to be in Texas. Really, mid-May through September is all bad, but August especially. I needed cooler temps! We only had a 3 day weekend to work with, but that’s all we really needed.

For starters, we used the Turo app to rent a car. I wanted something that felt like a mountain car, so we settled on an FJ Cruiser. The Turo app was so simple to use and you even get $25 off your first rental. We just picked it up in the airport parking lot and took off! Use my code to money off your first rental!

We stayed in downtown Denver at The Warwick. It was nice, comfy bed, great location. I was really impressed with downtown Denver. I’m not sure what I was expecting but it definitely surpassed it. Great restaurants and bars all within walking distance. I highly recommend Coperta. Ahhhh…delicious. They have fresh mozzarella made to order with different toppings to choose from. It’s still warm when it arrives to your table. I recommend the sardine garnish…salty, rich, and fantastic!

Day One: White Water Rafting

Neither of us had ever tried this and we both loved it. Honestly, I was expecting it to be a little more white-watery, but it was still a blast! We used Downstream Adventures in Kremmling.

I didn’t have my waterproof case so we only got a pic of us after:/

Day Two: Rocky Mountain Hiking

We headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park for a day of hiking. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect! I was wearing a sweatshirt…in August…I mean…..

We had no idea until we arrived that the popular hiking paths can actually fill up to the point of capacity. So we had to drive right past the favorite Emerald Lake trail and opt for the Deer Mountain trail. Deer Mountain trail is a little over 6 miles and over 10,000 feet in elevation. It had a spectacular view from the top and a cute deer family waiting for us at the bottom!

All in all, Denver had everything we needed to have a quick, fun-filled and romantic weekend get-away!
