Trip story
Mindo, Ecuador, is about 2 hours outside of Quito, in the lush mountains. We had made a great relationship with a driver, Guillermo, and he agreed to drive us out for the day. The roads were small and very windy. I was car sick for most of the way! But I was glad to have made the trek. Mindo is technically in the Cloud Forest and attracts hordes of birders.
While there are several things to do in Mindo, we decided to take the cable car over to hike that promised several waterfalls. The cable car takes you straight through the clouds, and was very safe for kids. The hike was what I would consider moderate. Lots of ups and downs.
After the hike, we stopped by the butterfly garden, Mariposas de Mindo. This was such a treat. They have so many varieties of butterflies and leave out bananas that you can use to attract the butterflies to your hands. 10/10 would recommend with kids.
