Trip story
In August of 2017, the Fays traveled to Nashville for the solar eclipse. I thought this would be a fantastic idea for Scout's first flight. Plus, this would be a first for us, too - flying with a baby. Only an hour and half flight from Dallas. I mean, I could handle anything for an hour and half.
Before the flight, I did major prepping. Repacked every bag. Made several lists. Checked and double checked. I even bought Scout some yogurt melts because she'd never had them and I thought they'd be a great distraction. I had to work that morning and Scout and my husband would swing by to pick me up on the way to the airport. Needless to say, I had to make sure everything was in line and nothing forgotten. I even told my husband to feed Scout at 1 so she would be hungry right at take-off.
Well, I'm sure you see where this is going..."Ok. She's hungry. Perfect! Right on time. Can you make a bottle?" "Ok, formula? hmmm...formula?" "Ummm...It's in the checked bag. Under the plane"
My stomach dropped out of my butt and and I actually just started laughing. I mean, if you don't laugh, you cry. My husband just stared forward and seethed. We both knew that a hungry baby meant a loud baby. The man sitting in the window seat of our aisle realized what we were whisper fighting about and plugged in his ear buds quickly. This was potentially going to ruin everyone's flight...
Immediately I go into trouble shooting mode. I think that I'd seen another mother and baby pass our seat earlier! Maybe she has formula? Hell, I'd let her breastfeed my baby at this point! Scout begins making it obvious she's hungry....crap! I'm the worst mother that has ever flown. Ever.
But wait! I think! I think she's old enough for juice? Based solely on a passing question at her last pediatricians visit. By passing question, I mean that the nurse asked if she'd started juice yet and I answered no...not the most assuring dialog but I'd take diarrhea over hungry any day! "Flight Attendant! Please, apple juice and water!"
Bing-o, Bang-o! Mama is on fire! Scout slurped the 8 oz down and then dozed off to the sound of the engines. Only to wake in Nashville. Sometimes being creative(desperate) is more important than being prepared!
This pic was taken by propping my phone on a sleeping Scout and setting the timer to 3seconds.
